Road projects

According to an announcement from state Rep. Sherm Hutchins, R-Penobscot, Prospect will see some road work over the next three years.

The Maine Department of Transportation Work Plan for 2022, 2023 and 2024 includes over $10 million for 18 projects in House District 131. The budget includes $514,000 spread over all three years in  Prospect and Verona Island for repairs, maintenance and facility management of the Penobscot Narrows Observatory complex.

Another $1.5 million is budgeted for improvements in 2023-24 that include highway and bridges lighting at the Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Observatory.

Paving is planned in 2023-24 beginning at the junction of routes 1 and 1A and extending north for 5.95 miles, but the DOT plan has no estimate. For spot improvements and slope stabilization on Route 1 two tenths of a mile north of Switzer Spring Road, DOT has budgeted $1.26 million.

Also in 2023-24, DOT plans improvements to Colson Bridge, over Colson Stream, 0.38 of a mile north of Hawes Bridge Road, as well as replacing the deck of the Marsh Bridge on Route 174 over Carley Brook, four tenths of a mile east of Route 1A.
