Hello Monroe!

The recent smaller storms have left a soft new covering of snow on our yard, and Oliver is finding it much more enjoyable lately to play outside in 30-degree temperatures over the ice-covered, frigid tundra we previously had to deal with! The sun, when out, is even starting to throw off some warm heat, and the fact that it’s staying lighter later is lifting all our spirits.

Lions’ breakfast

The Monroe Lions Club will be hosting a public breakfast on Saturday, March 19, from 7 to 9 a.m. at the Monroe Community Church on Route 139 in town. Guests are welcome to eat in or order takeout. Menu items will include homemade corned beef hash, eggs, pancakes and more, $10 for adults and $4 for kids. Coffee will be hot and smiles bright. Come out and support the local Lions as they raise money for their annual scholarship.

A reminder that the Monroe Community Library will be open on Saturday, March 12, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., in addition to its typical weekly hours (Mondays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Wednesdays from 4 to 7 p.m.). This is a great opportunity for families to bring young children in to see what’s new for titles in the children’s book cupboard. There will also be a “Take and Make” craft and snacks available!

Monroe Country Store

From fresh baked scones, muffins, bars, cupcakes, doughnuts and more, to savory soups, sandwiches and pizzas, if you haven’t stopped into the Monroe Country Store lately, it’s worth adding to your route. The Sloppy Joe special Oliver and I dug into one evening last week really hit the spot. Chased by, or in Oliver’s case, started with, a cookie, of course….

Have a great week!
