Morrill Fire Department notes

The department has been busy over the last two weeks. Calls for service included a tow on Feb. 23 for trees down in the road. One that same week was for a carbon monoxide detector activation. There was an issue, the house was cleared and homeowner is to monitor for future issues. On Feb. 24, we were called for mutual aid to Montville at 10:50 p.m. Engine 32 and Tanker 35 responded but were canceled en route.

New members Sara Kelemen, Tom Fish and Lee P. have started the basic firefighter class in Liberty with other Waldo County firefighters. A class for junior firefighters, age 14-18 and open to both males and females, should begin the last of March or early April. This class is being held jointly by the Belfast and Morrill fire departments. Belmont and Waldo also are committed to assisting. Students
are asked to call their respective chiefs for more details.

The Ladies Auxiliary will be setting a date soon for their spring meeting. They hold about four meetings a year plus host Santa’s annual visit to town. In addition, they raise money for various activities and Fire Department support. They would like to welcome more ladies to their organization. Contact Mindy Rowlands at the Town Office for more information.

Remember, when meeting or being approached by an emergency vehicle, the law states you are to pull over and stop until the vehicle has passed. Please do so.

Be safe and have a great day. — Jethro Pease
