BELFAST — Ann Cole MacLaren passed away Feb. 20, 2022, at her home with her family by her side. She was born Oct. 1, 1932, in Belfast, the daughter of Thurman and Katherine Cole and sister of the late Jean Peterson.

She graduated from Crosby High School in Belfast and earned her associate degree from Vermont College.

She is survived by her sons, Robert and Richard MacLaren, along with their wives, Kathleen and Julia; her grandchildren, Paige Phariss, Cole MacLaren, Anni Andrade, Henry Roberts; and her six great-granddaughters.

Ann was a great conversationalist. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed playing skat with her peers. She regularly worked the polling station at election time. Ann was one who never held a grudge. Ann spent her youth in Belfast enjoying the shore of Penobscot Bay, where she was raised. She spent many hours during her high school years working in the family grocery store, Kittridge’s Market of Belfast.

Ann traveled the world, living in the Philippines and Korea. She visited China, Thailand, Scotland and Spain. She lived several years in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky and Rhode Island. Of all the places she lived, Belfast was where she considered home. She was a true Yankee.
