AUGUSTA — Days after announcing its most decorated basketball, wrestling and swimming standouts for 2021-22, the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference shone the spotlight on cheering, indoor track and girls ice hockey, with boys ice hockey and skiing athletes recognized at a later date.

The latest announcement is significant news for a handful of Midcoast student-athletes, especially Medomak Valley Greg Cifaldo, who has been recognized as the league’s Class B cheerleader of the year.

The Midcoast does not have separate high school girls hockey teams. Female athletes play on the boys team.

The KVAC all-conference and all-academic selections for area student-athletes, with information supplied by the league, includes:

Indoor track

Class B first team — Belfast’s Andrew Abelon, Nicholas Ritchie and Lia Frazee.

Class B second team — Medomak Valley’s Noah Morris; Belfast’s Juniper Fowler; and Oceanside’s Cassidy Novicka and Maria Protheroe.

All-academic — Belfast’s Nicholas Ritchie and Natalie Curry; Oceanside’s Deklin Fitzgerald and Devin Guptill; and Medomak Valley’s Morgan Flanders and Ruth Havener.

Cheering

Class B first team — Medomak Valley’s Greg Cifaldo, Elizabeth Swan and Braelyn Hood; and Belfast’s Angela Benitez.

Class B second team — Medomak Valley’s Hope Mason; and Belfast’s Sierra Davis-Demmons.

All-academic — Medomak Valley’s Emily Mahoney and Elizabeth Swan; and Mount View’s Kayla Holcomb, Emma McPherson and Macala Parks.

Class B cheerleader of the year — Medomak Valley’s Greg Cifaldo.
