BELFAST — As a continuation of its MaineMadeMovies Series, the Colonial Theatre, 163 High St., presents a screening of “Magnificent Beast” Saturday, April 2, at 7 p.m.

In a new documentary, a Midcoast-based mother/son filmmaking duo set out to explore an already paradoxical relationship between pigs and people. Through interviews with farmers, hunters, pet owners and archaeologists, “Magnificent Beast” goes searching for an explanation as to why pork has kept its cultural taboo intact as many other ones have fallen away.

The film was produced in collaboration between Josh Gerritsen of Lincolnville (director of the 2018 horror film “Island Zero”) and novelist Tess Gerritsen of Camden. There is a discussion with filmmaker Josh Gerritsen after the screening.
