BELFAST — A month-long investigation into a series of broken windows, apparently shot out with a BB gun, has culminated in the arrest of Alan Kunesh, 51, of Searsmont, the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday, March 18.

A press release issued by the Sheriff’s Office said that office, Belfast Police and Maine State Police have fielded 20 calls since mid-February “for service involving windows being damaged at area businesses, private homes and several vehicles.” Most locations targeted were located along Route 1 from Northport to Belfast and Route 3 from Belfast to Liberty. “The damage appeared to be caused by someone shooting the windows with a BB gun,” the release said.

A coordinated investigation culminated on March 11, when Sheriff’s Detective Sgt. Merl Reed arrested Kunesh, who was charged with aggravated criminal mischief, Class C. Kunesh was taken to the Waldo County Jail where he later posted a $500 cash bail, according to the release.

The investigation is ongoing and the Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone with information regarding additional locations that may have been damaged to contact the office at 338-2040.
