CAMDEN — Megunticook Rowing announces its spring youth and adult indoor programs, along with free learn-to-row classes.

Registration for spring youth rowing at the varsity and club level has begun as the season begins on Monday, March 28 with indoor training at the Midcoast Recreation Center in Rockport.

The varsity team is designed for high school-age girls and boys to row at a competitive level and race in team boats. The team will train five days a week indoors March 28 through April 25 at MRC and on the water beginning in late April. The varsity will be coached by Tris Coburn and Will Schaetzke.

The club program is designed for girls and boys ages 12-18, who are learning to row, or prefer a more relaxed, noncompetitive, schedule. Practices will be three afternoons each week starting on Tuesday, April 26. “The program’s focus is an introduction to rowing, building technique and endurance, and enjoying time on the water,” said Meg Webb, president of Megunticook Rowing. The club program will be coached by Bob Perkins.

Adult indoor rowing continues in March and April at MRC.

“This is a great introduction to the rowing stroke and a fabulous total body work out,” said Webb. Classes are coached by Anna Goodale, an Olympic gold medalist. Registration is on the website at megunticookrowing.org.

Megunticook Rowing also announces free learn-to-row classes at MRC. Experienced coaches will teach the basics of the stroke and provide an introduction to the sport of rowing. “This is a great place to start if you are interested in adding the rowing machine into your workout routine, or hope to get on the water later in the season,” said Webb.

The sessions are open to all ages. No experience is required. To register, go to: megunticookrowing.org/free-learn-to-row or email row@megunticookrowing.org.
