BATH — Thirty-four Midcoast middle school wrestlers, including eight regional champions, earned the right to participate in the Pine Tree Wrestling League championship meet on Saturday, April 2 at Morse High School.

Those young mat athletes turned in strong performance in the East Regional on Saturday, March 26 at Bath Middle School, as Camden-Rockport Middle School finished first, Troy Howard Middle School of Belfast second, Mount View Junior High School of Thorndike sixth, Oceanside Middle School of Thomaston seventh and Medomak Middle School of Waldoboro eighth.

Overall, Camden-Rockport qualified 11 to the next stage, Troy Howard 10, Medomak five and Mount View and Oceanside four.

The top four wrestlers in each weight class at the East and West regional meets qualify for the league championships.

The league’s season was cut short two years and did not start last season due to the pandemic.

At Saturday’s East meet, CRMS finished with four firsts, two seconds, three thirds and two fourths, while THMS had two firsts, three seconds, two thirds and three fourths. Mount View had a first, two seconds and third; Oceanside, first, second and two thirds; and MMS, second, three thirds and fourth.

Mount View — Oden Pontillo (1st at 240, 14-0), Shane Goguen (2nd at 111 pounds, 10-3), Chad Cole (2nd at 195, 12-3) and Chase Kenney (3rd at 155, 13-2).
