YARMOUTH — Greta Leola Bird was born Jan. 22, 1931, in Northport to Mabel Audine Bird of the Bird family, whose ancestry in Northport goes back several hundred years.  She was living with her daughter Cheri and Mike Walker prior to passing away, at the age of 91, at the Brentwood Center in Yarmouth Jan. 27.

She was predeceased by her mother, Mabel (Bird) Young, and Mabel’s husband, Roger Young; her husband, Richard Morse Sr., and it is suspected, by a grandson, Richard Morse III, who was reported missing Dec. 15, 1998, and never has been located.

Surviving family members are Greta’s daughter Rose and her husband, Eugene Newton Sr., of Belmont; sons Richard Morse Jr. and Gary Morse, both of Belmont; and her daughter Cherissia and her husband, Mike Walker, of Standish.

Greta’s grandchildren are Eugene Newton Jr. and wife Terry (McNeil) Newton; Sheila Newton and companion Todd Tripp; Christopher Morse and wife Amanda (Berry) Morse; Diahanne (Morse) Bowden and husband Matt Bowden; Sarah Morse; and Melissa Walker; great-grandchildren are Michaela, Reilly, Ethan, Cloe, Austin and Aaron, Kaysea, Konnor, Avianna, Madison, Maggie, Macey and Mallory; and one great-great-grandson, Easton.

Greta was a hard-working woman from her youth, living on a farm all her life, milking cows, farming, getting in the winter wood, gardening and preserving food for the winter months, and she was a good cook.  Her two daughters, Rosie and Cheri, cared for her in their homes during her last years.

There will be a celebration of life June 4 at  Rosie Newton’s. More information will be forthcoming.
