Garden helpers are here. Beginning June 1 Aging Well in Waldo County will be offering light garden help for older residents. Services such as filling a planter, starting a raised bed, adding bagged potting soil, tidying up a flower bed or flower boxes, or planting some seedlings are examples of the the types of help available.

Michele Carrier-Clinch of Thorndike, a Master Gardener, is the initiator of this new program. Carrier-Clinch hopes to help senior citizens who love to garden maintain some of the joys of a homegrown tomato, or blooming seasonal flowers.

Homeowners requesting help must be able to furnish the supplies (although the garden helper can do a pickup for them at a local garden center). The homeowner must also be able to water and maintain the project. Garden helpers will bring their own tools.
