SEARSPORT — Soggy conditions be darned, the Searsport and Mount View baseball and softball teams took to their high school diamonds on Wednesday afternoon, April 13 for preseason action against one another.

Neither game went the official seven innings as the rain picked up and became increasingly steady throughout, but two of the Waldo County schools ended the day not only ducking for cover, but outscoring their opponent.

Mustang baseball swung to a 3-0 win when the game was halted after six completed innings, while Viking softball held an 8-2 lead when that contest was halted midway through the fifth.

High school games are seven innings and must go at least five innings (4 1/2 if home is leading) to be deemed official. Thus, Searsport’s softball win does not go down as “official” in the scorebook.

Searsport baseball and softball are the defending state Class D champions.

In baseball, the Mustangs got RBI-singles by Declan Knowlton, Hunter Penney and Calvin Jewett, while Noah Hurd also rapped a double.

In softball, the Vikings scored one run in the first, one in the second, two in the third and four in the fourth, while the ‘Stangs scored both runs in the fourth.

Additional information from the games was unavailable.
