Greetings, Brooks.

I have a lot of information this time! I hope everyone had a happy Easter and enjoyed the egg hunt.

I’m very sad to report the passing of Jeanne Shea. Jeanne was a lovely person and avid gardener (her home garden is just stunning). She was instrumental in the planting of the day lilies around town. A celebration of life is planned for a later date. Jeanne will be missed by all.

Our sexton, Dan Miron, reports that the suggested opening day for the cemeteries will be May 1. If you need a copy of the Cemetery Ordinance, please ask for one at the Town Office.

The Brooks Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary will be hosting a fundraising dinner on Friday, April 29, at the Varney Memorial Building. The dinner will feature homemade meatloaf, side dishes and desserts and will run from 5:30 p.m. until gone. Carry-out will also be available. Price is $11 for adults and $5.50 for children. Please come out and participate (you know you don’t feel like cooking).

In addition to needing more members, the Fire Department needs equipment (including a thermal imaging  camera).

Members of the Marsh River Theater have been working hard to get ready for the 25th anniversary season. It will kick off with the popular “Dancing With the Local Stars.” We are looking for acts for the Eddie Mulligan Variety Show. We are also getting ready to cast for the musical and comedy show. The comedy show is “The Dahlia Swim Club” — five women who meet every year in North Carolina for a reunion. Don’t want to be on stage? There are plenty of opportunities behind the scenes.

The Brooks Rec Department continues to meet on the first Monday of the month, 6:30 p.m. at the Town Office. We are looking for volunteers to help plan events in the Community Park, including a fundraiser for a walking trail. Can you sew? We need seamstresses and tailors for a Christmas costuming project.

The Varney Ladies Fellowship members are hard at work planning for the “Spring Fling” on May 14 at the Varney Memorial Building. I’ll remind you again, but this event will include handcrafted items, baked goods and food. We will also be raffling off two gorgeous handmade quilts. Tickets are on sale now and are $2 each or three for $5. You can purchase them at the Thrift Store or contact me. Please let me know if you want to arrange to see the quilts in person prior to the event. You will love them!

The Select Board reminds you that meetings occur every other Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Town Office. These meetings are open to the public and everyone is welcome.

If you need more information or have any questions, feel free to contact me.

Until next time … peace.
