The weather — cold, windy and wet — has made it a bit more difficult to play early-season high school tennis matches in relative comfort, but area squads, and the court student-athletes, have persevered to finish tough competitions, including against one another.

By and large, it was a forgettable day on the courts for Oceanside of Rockland, Camden Hills of Rockport, Medomak Valley of Waldoboro and Belfast on Monday, April 25.

The Windjammer boys — the defending Class A North champions — were the lone Midcoast court team to emerge victorious, while the Windjammer girls lost to Brunswick.

The Panthers lost to Lincoln Academy of Newcastle and Lions to Waterville, while the Mariner boys lost to Cony of Augusta and girls to Maranacook of Readfield. The Belfast girls also lost to Waterville 5-0.

Despite the recent rain, the court action continued on Thursday, April 28 in cold, blustery conditions as the Medomak Valley boys netted a 3-2 win over Camden Hills, while the Windjammer girls returned the favor with a 5-0 victory over the Panthers. The Oceanside boys also were dealt a 5-0 defeat by Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield.
