WALDO COUNTY — Three Waldo County authors are finalists for the annual Maine Literary Awards presented by Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance (MWPA). Belfast Poet Laureate Judy Kaber is one of three finalists in the Poetry category with her poem, “After a Long Flight, We Arrive.” Also in that genre is Carolyn Locke of Troy for her piece, “Thoughts on Migration.” Linda Buckmaster’s essay, “Bearings,” from her new book, “Elemental: A Miscellany of Salt Cod and Islands,” is one of three nominations in Nonfiction.
Kaber has published three poetry chapbooks, the most recent of which is “A Pandemic Alphabet.” Locke has published one habun in the style of a Japanese travelogue and three books of poetry, including “The Riddle of Yes” in 2019. Buckmaster has a book of poetry, a memoir, and her most recent hybrid of essay, poetry and story.
