BELFAST — Join the Belfast Bay Watershed Coalition for Cathy Morgan Bird Week: a week-long series of bird walks to various wild places in the watershed. Bring warm clothes and binoculars, but please leave pets at home. Events began Monday and run through Saturday.

As part of Bird Week, you can take daily bird walks at 7 a.m. at various locations and end the week with a canoe and kayak paddle Saturday, May 21, on Upper Mason Pond.

The week is named for the late Cathy Morgan, longtime Belfast Bay Watershed Coalition board member who died in October 2016. Morgan organized the original Belfast Bird Day, which BBWC ran for a few years, spending a Saturday in May at Capt. Albert Stevens School in Belfast with guided bird walks every half-hour, scopes set up outdoors, and lots of children’s activities.

Since her passing, BBWC board member Cloe Chunn has been organizing a week of morning bird walks and, with the permission of Cathy’s husband, Dr. Lyndon Morgan, she named it Cathy Morgan Bird Week.
