“Owen” the opossum is still hanging around, but he has been joined by two rotund raccoons. One of them is missing part of its ear. I think I shall name him “Vincent van Gogh.”

Town meeting coming up June 4, 9 a.m. at the Unity Elementary gymnasium Articles will include updates of the Shoreland Zoning Ordinance, the Budget Committee Ordinance and a Commercial Solar Farm Ordinance. The town also has some articles about ARPA and will be asking for an additional $12,000 for winter road maintenance because of the extreme rise in road salt costs. The Land Use Ordinance will not be on the warrant.

The boat launch should be going in this week. The swimming dock will have to wait until June. The town has put in a request for a new swimming dock, which is on the town meeting warrant for June. The old one has been in disrepair for the last couple of years. I’ll remind everyone again to please obey the posted rules for Kanokolus Beach and boat launch. The rules exist so that all may enjoy it. There is a separate dog area to the right of the boat launch.

I received updated pictures this morning of the Farwell bridge on Berry Road. The decking has been removed and now they are working on the support structure. The state bridge engineer sent the report from last July and the bridge failed. We already knew that at the Town Office, so I contacted the state and let them know it was currently being rebuilt.

Looking for some produce vendors at The Market of Unity. Do you have eggs, greens, syrup, flowers, seedlings and such? Saturdays from 9 a.m.to 2 p.m. at the Town Office.

Unity Union Church has to delay its reopening until Sept. 11.

This cool weather hasn’t helped my watermelon efforts at all; I moved the seedlings¬†back into the house.
