Greetings, Brooks. I’m writing this prior to Memorial Day weekend, so summer might be right around the corner. I think it’s time to plant!

The Varney Community Garden has been tilled and planted thanks to Ray Quimby and Rodger Littlefield. Tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, green beans and butternut squash are in! The Varney Community Garden is available for anyone in need of vegetables this summer and is part of the community outreach efforts of the First Congregational Church of Brooks.

The Brooks Historical Society announces the following open houses for the summer season as follows: June 26, July 17, Aug. 14 and Sept. 11. The September “Heritage Days” Open House will feature local artists demonstrating their crafts. All open houses are scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday afternoons. Additional visits to the Menard Barn and Pilley Museum may be made by appointment by calling 322-6915.

Until next week … peace.
