BELFAST — Looking for an excuse to check out the Belfast Rail Trail? Now’s your chance. On June 18, runners and walkers of all ages are invited to join PAWS Animal Adoption Center for the fifth annual Paces for PAWS 5K and 1-mile fun walk/walk-a-thon. Held on the Belfast Rail Trail, this event is open to all ages and their dogs, too!  All dogs must have a current rabies tag to participate.

For the 5K race there will be four competitive categories: adult male, adult female, youth male and youth female. All runners/walkers will receive a participation medal and some PAWS swag.

For those who prefer to run a shorter distance or want to walk, there will be a 1-mile fun run/walk marked on the course. And for those who just want to help PAWS, there will be a walk-a thon where they can collect pledges to help raise money for PAWS. All participants can register by visiting pacesforpaws.org. Walk-a-thoners who raise $100 will receive a free PAWS T-shirt, and walkers who raise $250 will receive a free PAWS hoodie.

All proceeds will support PAWS in its efforts to provide shelter, food and medical care to displaced or at-risk dogs and cats in the Midcoast.

Paces for PAWS is the first of five events in the RunBelfast 2022 race series held in Belfast (more at runbelfast.org). The series includes: Paces for PAWS 5K, June 18; Rotary Kilted Canter 5K, July 23; Rotary Bug Run 5K, Aug. 20; YMCA Cross Country 5K, Sept. 24; Lions Ghostly Gallop, Oct. 29.

Established in 1974, the mission of PAWS Animal Adoption Center is to provide care for homeless dogs and cats until they can be placed in permanent, responsible homes, while promoting humane values in our community through outreach and educational programs.
