BELFAST — Regional School Unit 71 towns approved the proposed $29,481,327.32 budget, with the majority of residents in all towns except Morrill voting to approve it.

Both ballot questions regarding the budget and budget validation referendum process were approved.

Districtwide, 829 people voted in favor of the budget, with 369 people voting against it. Belfast saw the largest turnout with 563 residents voting in favor of the budget and 138 residents voting against it.

In Morrill, 52 residents voted in favor of the budget and 71 people voted against the budget.

This year’s overall budget is 2.8% higher compared to last year’s $28,684,417.17 budget.

The portion of the budget allocated to each town increased. Belfast’s share increased by 0.4%, Belmont’s share increased by 2.9%, Morrill’s share increased by 0.03%, Searsmont’s share increased by 2.3% and Swanville’s increased by 0.7%. The total town share is $15,676,217.08, a 0.8% increase from last year’s $15,545,464.23 allocation.
