Greetings, Brooks. I hope you all had a great week!

The Brooks Historical Society will hold their first Open House at the Pilley Museum and Menard Barn on Sunday, June 26, from 1 to 3 p.m. Well worth the trip — so many interesting things to see.

Flag Day

Pictured are flags that have served this nation well and long. They have worn to a condition in which they should no longer be used to represent our country. The flags were collected and respectfully retired from service on Flag Day (June 14) this year and honored in a brief ceremonial burning.

I’ve written about these events before, so here are a few reminders: Saturday, June 25, is the spaghetti dinner (4:30 p.m. at the Varney) to benefit the Brooks Rec Department, followed by Dancing with the Local Stars (7:30 p.m. at the Marsh River Theater). Plan to make a night of it.

Fireworks will be held in the Brooks Community Park this year on Saturday, July 2. There will be a Fourth of July parade in town on July 4 beginning at 10 a.m.

Just putting it out there — if anyone has a mannequin in good shape that they would like to donate, the Historical Society would love to give it a good home.

Until next time … peace.
