Fire Department news

We bring you another profile of one of our neighbors who volunteers as a member of the Morrill Volunteer Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary.

Gretchen Anderson Fish is one of the newest members. Gretchen’s husband  (a Morrill firefighter) and son Leo live at what most of us recall as the Bob Holmbraker farm. They have done a lot of renovations, both inside and outside. Gretchen is a horsewoman and often is seen riding down in South Morrill. She has volunteered already to be the vice president of the Auxiliary. Welcome to Morrill and the Auxiliary, Gretchen.

This year’s rifle raffle will commence soon. See an Auxiliary member or firefighter for tickets. This year the fundraiser will feature a Henry 30-30 caliber Golden Boy Rifle.

It is always nice to see a hometown young man or lady start and grow a business in town. Lyndon Whitcomb built a facility for L.C. Whitcomb landscaping on North Main Street over a year ago. He and family now have added a second business to the property, Whitcomb Family Storage.

A second building for that enterprise will soon be erected.

Small business like this is the backbone of all communities. They employ others as well as provide a broader tax base. Welcome, and we wish you continued success and growth.

Until next month, you all have a safe week and enjoy. — Jethro

I would love to hear from you, as you know this is your column and we would like to know of any upcoming events.

Saturday, June 25, is Community Potluck, 4:30-7 p.m. at the Morrill Community Center. Don’t forget to bring a dish to share. This supper happens every fourth week of each month.

Don’t mow the grass into the road — this is very dangerous to people on motorcycles and bicycles.

You all have a wonderful week! Watch out for all the children because school is out and we need to keep them safe.

Quote of the week
