Three years ago, Stewardship Education Alliance board member, Elphie Owen, who teaches at Camden-Rockport Middle School, suggested the group start Poetry on Windows. Who could have predicted that Poetry on Windows would so quickly become a local institution?

Since 2020, each May over the Memorial Day weekend, poems about the environment appear magically on windows throughout Camden. This year passers-by can also enjoy poems in Rockport, and Lincolnville, and next year they may see them on store windows in Appleton and Hope as well. The poems are written by local students and scribed onto windows by artists from the community.

This spring poet Brian Evans-Jones held workshops in Appleton Village School, CRMS, Hope Elementary, and Lincolnville Central School. The poems that now grace over 50 windows throughout the community.
