UNION — One person died early Saturday morning, June 18, in a car crash on Depot Street in Union.

Shawn Nadeau, 51, of Searsmont, died in the crash, according to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.

Knox County Regional Communication Center received a call shortly before 2 a.m. from Hyundai Blue Link reporting a motor vehicle crash near 854 Depot Street in Union.

First responders arrived in the area and located a white Hyundai Elantra, with significant damage, off the roadway and against a tree. Upon further investigation, a single occupant was found deceased in the operator’s seat of the vehicle.

The incident is still under investigation but preliminary finds show the Hyundai was traveling south on Depot Street and failed to negotiate a curve, crossed the road to the left, went off the roadway and came to rest after striking a tree. Speed is considered a contributing factor.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Union Fire & Emergency Services, Warren Fire, Hometown Towing and Long’s Funeral Home.
