SEARSPORT — Shirley A. Cook, 93, took his final honor flight with our Lord to join his dear wife and children in heaven, on June 8, 2022.

He was born in Belfast on Sept. 11, 1928, the son of Fred and Gertrude (Seekins) Cook. Shirley served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He served with the 8th Army, 565 grave registration company.

Upon returning from the war, he worked in the poultry industry, as a laborer for the town of Searsport and most recently at Hamilton Marine in Searsport, where he worked right up to October 2021. He loved staying busy and working. Shirley loved his God, family and friends, and he thanked his God every day for watching out for him and protecting him. Shirley also loved to travel and sightsee.

Shirley is survived by two children, Ronald Cook and his wife Barbara, and Brenda Williams; 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. His first granddaughter, Sherry Howard, was his primary caregiver, and his grandson Gary Cook provided transportation to all his appointments.

Shirley is also survived by one sister, Mildred Belyea, as well as many nieces and nephews. Wayne Hamilton and the folks at Hamilton Marine were his extended family. Shirley and his wife Irene raised multiple families after the deaths of parents; these folks were his family as well — family was so important to Shirley.

In addition to his parents, Shirley was predeceased by his loving wife of 65 years, Irene (Ward) Cook, in July 2017. He also was predeceased by two children, Lee R. Cook and Ruth Ann Spacco, and three brothers, Wesley Cook, Edwin Cook and Stanley Cook.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 1, at 2 p.m. at Faith Temple Church, Route 52 in Belfast.

Arrangements are under the direction of Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Searsport,  mitchelltweedie-young.com.
