Yes, the Fourth of July is over, but there are plenty of other community activities to participate in!

Methodist Church Supper

It’s the second Saturday of the month, that means it’s time for the Methodists to put on their down- home takeout turkey supper. If you’re visiting, it’s a nice time to experience some local food and some home-baked pies! It starts at 4:30 p.m. and cost is $10 a person to take out.

Searsport Historical Society

At the Methodist Church Vestry, on Tuesday, July 12, at 7 p.m., the Searsport Historical Society will welcome Penobscot Marine Museum photo archivist, Kevin Johnson. He will be showing photos from the museum’s “Small Collection” of homes from the 1940s and 1950s. Kevin always enjoys the audience comments about the homes he shows. The meetings are always free and open to the public. Masks are required.

Carver Memorial Library

Tiny Art Kits: Try your hand at painting on a 3×3 canvas! Each kit contains a canvas, paints, and a paintbrush, but you may use your own supplies if you like. To be a part of the “Tiny Art Show,” bring back your painted canvas by July 27 to be displayed Aug. 1-12. Your art will be returned to you. Sounds like an interesting project!

Book Club

Book Club will be happening on July 12 at 1 p.m. They will be discussing “The Hotel on the Corner of Bittter and Sweet” by Jamie Ford. This will take place at the picnic table on the library lawn. Bring your sunscreen, hats, bug spray, and a folding chair if you have one. Open to everyone; come and discuss or just listen in. If it needs to move indoors to the Children’s Room, please bring a mask.

Spice Club will be learning about sage this month. Try new recipes and get some background and history of the herb. All kits are free, no need to register, just pick up a kit.

The summer yarn coral reef is coming along in the reading room. Try out coral crochet or make your own fabric fish, knitted anemones for our textile ocean tank.

What’s happening at the museum

On July 7 there will be a Trivia Night Walking Tour on the campus. The trivia will involve fun local facts. Cost is $8 in advance and $10 at the door.

Junior Adventurers

On Wednesday, July 13 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the Penobscot Marine Museum is sponsoring drop-in programs with crafts and activities. The program is weekly and gives families a chance to enjoy the museum in a fun way.

On Thursday, July14, there will be an Authors and Artists Walking Tour from 5 to 7 p.m. The tour will focus on artists and authors from Searsport.
