MORRILL — Gary E. Sheldon, age 77, passed away peacefully into the presence of our Lord on July 2, 2022, in his home with family at his bedside after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born May 1, 1945, in Bangor to Hilda and Elwyn Sheldon. He is survived by his dear wife of 56 years, Faye Sheldon, and by his children, Marcia O’Jala and her husband Chris, Mark Sheldon and his wife Ginger, and Michelle Perkins and her husband Greg.

He is also survived by grandchildren Jacob O’Jala, Gracie Mitchell and her husband Brandon, Hayden Sheldon and his wife Brooke, Olivia O’Jala, Calvin Sheldon, Camden Perkins, Isaac Perkins, Coltin Sheldon, Corbin Sheldon, Daniel Perkins and Marti Sheldon; great-grandchildren Eben Mitchell, Hallie Mitchell and Blair Sheldon; sister Jean Whitcomb and her husband Edward Whitcomb; brother David Sheldon and his wife Dalene; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Elwyn and Hilda Sheldon, and sister-in-law Lois Whitcomb.

Gary graduated from Crosby High School in 1963, and graduated from the University of Maine in Orono with a degree in agricultural mechanics in 1966. His work included chicken farming, running a gravel pit, truck driving, managing a rope test strength facility and selling farm equipment for Ingraham Equipment Co.

Gary was involved for many years as a selectman and as a member of the volunteer fire department and water company for the town of Morrill. Gary was an active member of the Morrill Baptist Church, Fair Haven Camps and recently the Neighborhood House in Belfast.

Gary was a great man of faith and a solid rock for his family and friends, many of whom sought out his advice and wisdom. You could find him at his table for a coffee break or on his four-wheeler checking on his cows and chickens. He loved to go for rides with family and friends to look at farms or construction sites. Summer nights he loved to sit on the porch of the family camp surrounded by those he loved.

The family would like to thank Beacon Hospice for the care and support given to us through these past couple of weeks, especially Miles, Cassie and Allison.

A celebration of Gary’s life will be at the Morrill Church, 26 South Main St., Morrill, on Saturday, July 16, at 1 p.m. with a coffee break to follow.

Family and friends who wish may make donations to Fair Haven Camps, 81 W. Fair Haven Lane, Brooks, ME 04921, or Neighborhood House, 174 Congress St., Belfast, ME 04915.  Memories and condolences may be shared at
