Greetings, Brooks. I hope you all are enjoying the summer. And now for more information.

On Saturday, July 23, the Brooks Recreation Department is hosting a “Meet & Greet” at the Community Park from 2 to 4 p.m. (or whenever). This event is long overdue and it doesn’t matter whether you’re new to Brooks or an oldtimer! Come out and meet friends, new neighbors and representatives from a number of businesses and organizations throughout the area. You’ll be treated to food and beverages along with a few surprises.

For more information, please feel free to contact me or Mike Switzer at 207-323-8316. Hope to see you there.

Bear with me. A little over a month ago, a bear ran in front of the car while we were traveling south on Route 7 in Brooks. This past week a resident came home (after dark) to find a bear in the process of breaking into her home. Luckily, he decided to run into the woods. So, if you live near a wooded area or field, it is recommended that you remove any bird feeders and secure trash.

Road trip and shameless plug. Great nephew Gavin McSkeane is having his second solo at the Granite Gallery in Tenants Harbor, July 22-27. Gavin received a BA in fine arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art. He plans to complete a fifth year where he will earn a master’s degree and a teaching certificate. When not painting Maine landscapes, he returns to the Monhegan Boat Line in Port Clyde and is working on the Laura B. Check it out if you can. He is an amazing talent.

Until next time … peace.
