LINCOLNVILLE — The star of the July 11 Lincolnville Select Board meeting was Penobscot Park.

Board members toured the park at the outset of Monday’s meeting to view its current condition, and to see the impact of planned upgrades.

Town Administrator David Kinney and Facilities Director David Roundy outlined the planned improvements to the park at the June Select Board meeting.

New signage and picnic tables are amongst the planned improvements. Walking trails will be regraded, picnic shelters will be repaired, and a new handrail will be installed on the steps leading to the shore.

“It’s time,” said Lincolnville Town Administrator David Kinney. “The shelters and buildings have been exposed to the weather and they need to be repaired.”

Penobscot Park is currently closed until work is complete. Select Board members approved the following policies for the park when it reopens.

Alcoholic beverages, snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles are prohibited. Dogs must be on a leash with large domestic animals prohibited. Board members also approved a carry in, carry out policy for trash and dog waste. Once open, park hours will be 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset.
