BELFAST — On Wednesday, July 20, 2022, David F. “Chip” Hall of Belfast, father of two children and grandfather of five, passed away peacefully at the age of 79.

Chip was born on Sept. 20, 1942, in New York City to Atwood and Alma Hall. After an upbringing in the greater Hartford, Conn., area, Chip attended Colgate University and graduated from the University of Hartford before starting his family.

Chip embraced his entrepreneurial spirit and embarked on a long career in sales and small business administration that spanned the scope from camera equipment to men’s clothing to lumber brokerage to restaurants and finally to working for Danbury and Fairfield, Conn., Porsche dealerships, combining his love of cars with his prodigious sales acumen.

Chip’s love of cars was a lifelong affair from his teenage years through his retirement from professional life. Chip owned and collected Porsches and cars his whole life. He was a certified driving instructor for the Porsche Club of America and spent many happy days driving and instructing on his “home” track in Limerock, Conn.

Chip enjoyed the outdoors, utilizing skills gained as an Eagle Scout with the Boys Scouts of America. He loved hiking, boating and fishing, especially in the ocean near Weekapaug, R.I. As an avid sports fan, the Boston Bruins and Boston Red Sox were never far from his conversation.

Chip will be remembered for his care-giving kindness and unfailing loyalty to his family and friends. As a dedicated father, Chip encouraged and supported his sons as they followed their own unique passions and life paths.

Chip was preceded in death by his father Atwood and mother Alma. He is survived by his sister Merry Sibley of Higganum, Conn., and by his two sons, Scott Hall of Belfast and Taylor Hall of Wilson, Wyoming. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Bettina, Elsie and Whit Hall of Wyoming and Caleb and Phoebe Hall-Arnett of Maine, and by his nieces and cousins.

A celebration of Chip’s life will be held later this fall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Belfast Soup Kitchen at
