On Tuesday, Aug. 9, at 7 p.m. at the Searsport Methodist Church Vestry on Main Street, the Searsport Historical Society will host speaker Steve Gibbons from the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. His topic will focus on Searsport’s Civil War Hero, Col. Freeman McGilvery. All meetings are free and open to the public. The meeting will conclude with a time to socialize and speak with Steve.

Free veggies are back! Every Friday morning Dick Demarais will be at the Safety Building giving away free vegetables. This is part of a program from the Restorative Justice garden in Swanville. They grow fresh food for food pantries and will give extras away to the public. This week there were boxes of green peppers, and summer squash. Whatever is in season will appear!

Tip: If you miss out on Friday morning, you might see a sign and a truck at Dick’s driveway on Route 1!

On Wednesday, July 27, the Department of Transportation was supposed to meet with our town manager and Select Board to give us more insight to the repairs planned on Route 1 in Searsport his fall. The project was put out to bid for 30 days, but alas, no bids were received! According to the DOT, that has never happened before, so they are regrouping at the highest levels to get this long-awaited project scheduled!
