BELFAST – The Colonial Theatre,163 High St., presents two showings of the documentary film “The Race to Alaska” Wednesday, Aug. 17, at 4 and 7 p.m.

Held annually since 2015, this race is 750 miles between Port Townsend, Washington and Ketchikan, Alaska with all boat entries powered by sail or human oarspersons only.

Belfast’s own Leigh Dorsey and her sister Claire completed the 2022 race last month, becoming the first female muscle-powered team to do so as part of their racing group named “Don’t Tell Mamma.” Of course Mamma did find out, and now bursts with pride at the feat of her daughters.

A special treat is in store Aug.17, as Dorsey, along with the sisters’ custom rowing boat Mursu, will be in attendance in the Colonial’s Dreamland auditorium for a talk about her race to Alaska presented between the two showings. For more information, visit colonialtheatre.com or call 207-338-1930.
