Hello Monroe!
Our hot August days of late are mostly spent cooling off in the water, either under the hose out back beneath the shade, or at Randall Pond, Meema’s pool or Swan Lake, and eating lots of ice pops and ice cream. How do you like to cool off during the height of August’s heat?
Worth celebrating
Congratulations to the Norgang family, Michael, Rachel and Dillon, for the launch of their sailboat, Kittiwake, back into Belfast Harbor. Rachel says, “It has been an epic push to give Kittiwake much-needed repairs and a facelift. Michael put in so many long days and late nights, and my fingerprints have not grown back yet from the sanding, sanding, sanding. But here she is, looking right beautiful and intelligent.” Enjoy your warm days on the salty waters, Norgangs!
Celebrating eight years together on Aug. 2, belated happy anniversary to Kit Hamley and Reuben Hudson.
Gesner Park social
Clear your calendar and plan to attend the ice cream social at Gesner Park on Wednesday evening, Aug. 24, from 5 to 7 p.m. Catch up with neighbors and friends you’ve been too busy to see this summer while kids can run around the soccer fields and play in bubbles and make art using chalk on the basketball court.
Monroe residents can also sign up for local youth soccer that evening! Mites is for youth in grades 1, 2 and 3, and Majors is for grades 4, 5 and 6. The cost is $25 for one player, or $35 for two or more.
Orchard opening
Ben and Belle Hooper are set to open their orchard to the public again this season, with opening day being Saturday, Aug. 13. Hooper’s Orchard, 856 Back Brooks Road, Monroe, will be open the first weekend from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and then for the season Thursday-Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This year’s corn maze is Minion themed, and dill pickles and sauerkraut are ready at the farm store, with pepper jellies and more goodies soon to follow! See and follow them on Facebook for updates on what’s picking and ready.
Condolences
Thoughts of comfort and closure are with the family and friends of Victor Whitcomb. I am told Victor was a lifelong resident in Monroe and Brooks, aside from 13 years serving in the Air Force. Victor passed on July 10, 2022.
Have a great week!
