BELFAST — Police are looking for the driver of a pickup truck who struck and injured a bicyclist Friday night, Aug. 12, and left the woman lying in a roadside ditch.

According to a press release from Belfast Police Chief Robert Cormier, Tristen Fontenelle, 30, of Searsmont was taken to Waldo County General Hospital, where she was treated for head injuries.

Belfast Police were called to the vicinity of 238 Belmont Ave. (Route 3) at 8:51 p.m. after a 911 caller reported hearing what sounded like an accident, the press release said, and discovered a female victim lying in a ditch on the side of the road with injuries to her head.

“From our initial investigation, it appears the bicyclist was traveling westbound on Belmont Avenue on the eastbound shoulder when she was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound …,” Cormier said in the release.

“The vehicle involved fled the scene eastbound on Route 3, leaving the injured cyclist in the ditch.”

He said police have information that suggests the vehicle involved may be a 2014 to 2018 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that will be missing the passenger side mirror and passenger side front window. The vehicle would have been traveling eastbound on Route 3 toward Route 1 following the collision with the bicyclist, he said.

Anyone who has information regarding this case or may have been in the area of 238 Belmont Ave. at approximately 8:50 p.m. Friday night is asked to contact Belfast Police at 207-338-2040.
