Hello Monroe!

If you haven’t had a chance to pack a picnic and sit on the waterfront on Thursday evenings between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. in Belfast, you’ve been missing out! Belfast Summer Nights has been a welcome highlight to our week, and Oliver quickly learned to ask for an ice cream before returning home. And I always quickly agree!

Gesner Park social

Remember to plan to attend the ice cream social at Gesner Park on Wednesday evening, Aug. 24, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Catch up with neighbors and friends you’ve been too busy to see this summer. The ice cream is free, donated by Stone Fox Farm Creamery, with free will donations happily going toward the park’s new playground fund.

See the designs to chose from for the new playground while you’re at the park that evening and cast your votes for what you’d like to see installed for future generations to enjoy!

The Monroe Community Church ladies will be joining that evening, selling pies whole or by the slice to benefit the church budget. You can take your chances at the park to sample something scrumptious, or can pre-order by emailing or calling the church office at 525-3256, making sure to leave your name and a call-back number.

Monroe residents, and surrounding towns that are part of the Inner Waldo County Youth Soccer program, can also sign up for local youth soccer that evening. Mites is for youth in grades 1, 2 and 3, and Majors is for grades 4, 5 and 6. The cost is $25 for one player, or $35 for two or more.

Library programs

The Monroe Community Library is excited to announce that beginning this fall, children’s story times will be added to Saturday library activities! More details soon to come, but what a perfect opportunity this fall to bring your child(ren) to our cozy town library to browse for books, enjoy a snack and listen to a read aloud.

Did you fill out one of the Kid’s Bingo activity cards this summer? Make sure to turn it in at the library by Saturday, Aug. 20. Pick a small, fun prize and be entered to win a grand prize gift card to a local shop!

Electronics day

Sunday, Aug. 21, from 2 to 5 p.m., Monroe will be hosting an electronic collection at the Fire Department. Get the list of acceptable materials by stopping into the transfer station during open hours (Saturday mornings and Monday evenings) or by calling the Town Hall at 525-3515.

Have a great week!
