The Frankfort Historical Society held its cornhole tournament and raffle last Saturday and it was quite successful. All monies are to go toward buying and erecting a stone memorial for all the town’s veterans. This was just one of many regularly scheduled events designed to raise funds for this worthy project. Expect to hear of more events to come.

Interestingly, I visited and showed my support by buying some raffle tickets. I was told to go around the tables and see which reward I liked best and to place my tickets in a container next to the prize. I chose a beautiful, handmade birch bowl created by a local artisan. Having never won a raffle, I left for home and promptly forgot about it. Later that evening I heard a knock on my door and to my amazement, I had won the bowl. Suffice it to say, I was very pleased and grateful.

I plan on donating one of my books to a future event as a prize. I’m not sure which title I’ll choose, but it will be from Just Write Books, a Maine-based publisher.

Turkey takeout

My, how fast a month flies by. It’s time again for the Frankfort Congregational Church’s monthly takeout turkey supper, this Saturday, Aug. 27. Dinner includes roast turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, peas, cranberry sauce and homemade pies. To pre-order, call 207-223-9978 or 207-505-1928. Pickup for meals begins at 4:30 p.m. at the church, 42 S. Main Road, and continues until all meals are gone.
