We certainly needed those two days of slow, soaking rain; I can almost see the lawn turning green.

I went to the Unity Auction House held at the Masonic Hall on Bangor Road in Unity. It was fun. I lost out on a hand-carved decorative wooden duck, but I did win on an amber-colored glass basket. You can check out the upcoming events and lots up for bid on their Facebook page. I spent an hour there and they still had more things to auction. They do move right along, so you need to pay attention.

Select Board meetings are held on the first, third and fifth Tuesday of the month at the Town Office at 6:30 p.m. You can listen to the audio recordings of the meetings on unityme.org. If you have any concerns you’d like addressed at a Select Board meeting, you can attend in person and speak or you can submit your request to the Town Office via a “complaint form” that can be found on the website or at the Town Office.

Reminder! The deadline for submitting bids for winter snowplowing of the Town Office, the old swimming dock, and the tax-acquired piece of property at 113 Windemere Lane is Aug. 29 by 2 p.m. Bids will be opened Aug. 30 at the Select Board meeting.

Overnight camping is not allowed at Kanokolus Beach and boat launch.

Bridge Dedication Ceremony!

The Alton “Mac” McCormick Memorial Bridge dedication will be held Sunday, Sept. 11, at 10 a.m. This will mark the 68th anniversary of Hurricane Edna that tragically claimed two lives in Unity, including firefighter Mac McCormick, who was part of the rescue effort.

The bridge is located at the intersection of Albion and Quaker Hill roads. Join the McCormick and Brockway families and other residents, learn about the history of that day, and witness the unveiling of the signs. The dedication will be followed up with light refreshments at the firehouse.
