BELFAST — The Belfast Free Library, 106 High St., hosts a free beginner’s ukulele lesson with Ando Anderson Friday, Sept. 9, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Abbott Room. Please bring a ukulele if you have one. Anderson will have copies of his new book, “Playing the Uke with Ando,” available to purchase at the program.

A local musician and music teacher, Anderson learned to play the ukulele as a child in the backseat of the family car on a seven-hour drive. Since then Anderson has played guitar, upright bass and uke in assorted bands and groups, mostly in Mississippi and Maine. He currently teaches music to preschoolers and offers private lessons to all ages.

Lately, Anderson’s ukulele classes and groups are keeping him very busy. As a music teacher he’s thrilled to see the ukulele’s growing popularity, saying, “Lots of beginning players, young and old, are experiencing the joys and challenges of playing this happy fun instrument. I’ve written this book to encourage anyone and everyone to try out the ukulele.”

This program is free and open to all. Please call the library 207-338-3884 ext. 10 for more information.
