Peace Ridge Sanctuary is inviting anyone to sign up for a 5k run/1-mile fun run on Oct. 8, starting at 11 a.m. at their “new Northeast Equine Facility” on the Freedom/Albion town line. The running route will offer a “breathtaking view of luscious green lands and a charming bridge overlooking a peaceful brook.”

According to their website, “the race is designed to support the lifesaving work Peace Ridge does every day; providing quality care to the animals, rescuing more animals in need, and fostering compassion toward all animals … we will be awarding great vegan prizes to the top fundraiser as well as other top finishers and raffle winners! It will be a great day to enjoy the company of fellow animal lovers plus an amazing free vegan barbecue to all participants courtesy of Veggie Life.”

Registration is $32 per person. More information can be found at the Peace Ridge website, peaceridgesanctuary.org/.

Remember property taxes are due by Sept. 30 if you do not want to be assessed a late charge. Interest will start accruing on Oct. 1. Call the Town Office to obtain payment information. You must pay your tax bill by Dec. 31 or your name will appear in the annual Town Report, and by August 2023 to avoid the town placing a lien on your property.

The 2022 Tax Commitment Book and Tax Maps are now available on the town website. All property lots in town were assessed at a combined $59.7 million, and the town appears to expect about $1.16 million in collected taxes if all property owners pays their bills.
