BELFAST — “Locally Grown,” an exhibit of watercolor and ink illustrations with text by Rita Swidrowski, will be on display in the Kramer Gallery of the Belfast Free Library through Oct. 7. The Kramer Gallery, located on the ground floor of the library, 106 High St., is open during library hours. A gallery talk and reception take place Thursday, Sept. 29, from 3 to 4:30 p.m.

In a series of works that can be compared to the pages of an illustrated book, Swidrowski displays observational sketches and notes, sharing discoveries made from visits to local gardens, gardeners and farm markets over the last several years.

While being in love with and in awe of her subject, Swidrowski is not herself an experienced gardener. In this exhibition she shows how keeping journals can help people to observe, study, express and extend their experience of the world. This show is geared for all ages, and is especially good for students.

At the gallery talk and reception on Sept. 29, Swidrowski will share more of what she learned in a slide presentation. Visit belfastlibrary.org for more information.
