I will be teaching a “Veterans Benefits 101” seminar on Nov. 10, from 6:30 p.m. to no later than 8 p.m., at Mount View High School.

I wanted to do the same seminar I did in March, but arrange for it to appropriately coincide with Veterans Day, which is Nov. 11. So if you have any veterans in your life, or are a veteran yourself, and are interested in learning what you need to do to get disability benefits from the VA, please contact the Regional School Unit 3 Adult and Community Education Department.

I am thrilled with how my March seminar went, and am glad the Community Education Program asked me to hold another one.

Even though Election Day is about two months away, absentee ballots can already be requested by contacting the Freedom Town Office, or through the state of Maine website.

I do not know if Freedom will have any local issues on the ballot, but the top of the ballot will be dominated by the governor’s race between Janet Mills and Paul LePage, and our U.S. House Representatives race with Jared Golden, Bruce Poliquin and Tiffany Bond.

In a couple of weeks a long-time German friend of mine will be visiting Catherine and me for a few days. He wants to soak up as much of the “countryside” as he can, for he lives in a city of three million people in one of the most densely populated areas of western Germany.

He is really excited to see some wildlife — essentially the only wildlife he gets back home is city pigeons. He asked me what we should do while he is here. I have thought of a few things, but if you have any ideas please let me know!
