My apologies for not writing a column last week; I plumb ran out of time. Some weeks are like that, trying to cram in doctor visits and town business while trying to get housework and other projects done before the snow flies.

Welcome back to Unity, Cassie’s School of Dance! Dance classes are being held at Unity Elementary School. Our own Cassie Pillsbury, who also owns the Thomas School of Dance in Bangor, is excited to offer tap, jazz, hip hop, ballet and more to our local youth and adults.

Classes will be every Thursday beginning Sept. 22. Please email thomasschoolofdance@gmail.com to register. Please note that classes in Unity have their own pricing and do not follow the same calendar info as the Bangor classes.

Join Holler Soap Co. as they welcome Shyanne Levesque from The Magic Paintbrush for an evening of fun fall painting. Snacks and beverages will be provided. Paint a beautiful fall scene while chatting and hanging out with new and old friends. Bring your friends and make it a night out! $25 for supplies, in person instruction and snacks! Wednesday, Sept. 28, 6-9 p.m.

I have a “standing date” with Larry and Betsy King to attend the Unity Auction House at the Masonic Hall every other Thursday night. My awesome bargain last week was a solid wood quilt rack for $5. Larry picked up an antique brass scale (like one would use for weighing fish). Check out their Facebook page for items being auctioned and dates.

100-Acre Wood Childcare has openings for ages 0-5. Dawn Spack is partnering with KVCAP to offer the Homestart program. Healthy meals and snacks, outside play time, circle time, free play, dancing, etc. She is a 23-year veteran of daycare. Licensed and CPR/First Aid certified. Call 735-3012.

Bangor Savings Bank is holding its annual peanut butter and jelly drive this month. Donations will be shared with local food pantries.

The target reopening date for the Amish Community Market is around Sept. 23. This is tentative, as they are still doing some construction work.

Narcan Training and Awareness Session to be held Tuesday, Sept. 20, 6 p.m. at the Snowdusters clubhouse on Fisher Road.

TOPS ME 0167 Unity welcomes new members. This is a weight loss support group. It meets at the American Legion building at 108 Windemere Lane on Monday nights. I went to check the small headstone Dan McCormick and I fixed using epoxy at Douglass Cemetery. The stone had fallen off its base (it was originally cemented on). The epoxy did the trick and the old marble stone is solid as a rock. Pun intended.

We have ordered some new pedestrian signs for Main Street by The Ecology Learning Center. Please note that students are also now using the old Varney insurance office in Clifford Commons for additional classroom space and are often crossing the road by the post office.

We’ve received several complaints about people parking on the sidewalks or parking across crosswalks. These are for pedestrians and are not parking spaces.

Special town meeting Sept. 21, 6 p.m. at the Firehouse. Warrant articles will include “opting in” for medicinal cannabis and relinquishing ownership of the so-called “town pump” to the users of the pump. Note: The town of Unity already opted in for recreational marijuana in 2021.
