BELFAST — Peter John Velanzon Sr., 76, passed away unexpectedly Sept. 8, 2022, at his home in Belfast.

He was born in Stamford, Conn., on July 20, 1945, to Patsy and Evelyn Elizabeth (Harold) Velanzon. Peter moved to Belfast in 1968. A U.S. Army veteran, he served from 1968 to 1973, then stayed in the Army Reserves for many years.

In Belfast, Peter worked for many years at the shoe factory, then for Penobscot Frozen Foods/Penobscot McCrum for 33 years. An avid hunter, he was a Maine Hunter Safety course instructor. He loved his family, friends and his home in Belfast.

Predeceased by both parents, he is survived by his children, Peter Velanzon Jr. of Waldo and Leighann Kalivas of New Milford, Conn.; his brothers and sisters, Kim Woods of Belfast; Brenda Provencher of Limerick; Candy Jean Vaccaro of Stamford, Conn.; Candi Cook of South Carolina; Patrick Velanzon of Port Republic, Va.; Michael Jones and David Jones, both of Florida; grandchildren Anthony Reilly, Brianna Reilly, Chealsee Kalivas and Peter Velanzon III; great-grandchild Weston Hallahan; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting hours will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Riposta Funeral Home, followed by burial at Grove Cemetery, Belfast. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at ripostafh.com.
