BELFAST — Herbert W. Bryant Sr. of Belfast passed away Sept. 4, 2022, at Waldo County General Hospital at the age of 85. He was born Oct. 11, 1936, in Belfast, the son of Wilfred and Frances (Bradstreet) Bryant.
He graduated from Freedom Academy, class of 1955. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army before his career as a truck driver, from Frost and Wilkins Oil to cement truck driver, and later as batchman for State Sand & Gravel Inc. in Belfast. Even after retirement, he was known to call his former employer to check on the guys and make sure everything was OK. He made a lot of friends in the community. Odds are if you knew Herb, he probably did a cement slab for you.
He is survived by his son, Herbert W. Bryant Jr., and daughter, June Bryant, along with their mother, Mary Bryant, all of Belfast; two granddaughters, Tiffany Bryant and Brittany Munro; five great-grandchildren, Renae, Mason, Braven, Aubrey and Chase; niece Rhonda and nephews Randy and Roger, along with many great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, sister and brother-in-law Charlene and Richard Peppard, brother James Bryant, and nephew Rick Peppard.
A celebration of life is planned for Saturday, Sept. 17, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Belfast City Park. Everyone is welcome to come and share stories about Herb. Interment will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Freedom at a later date.
