A huge congratulations to the Unity Area Regional Recycling Center, particularly its attendants, Jeff and Steve. During the week of Sept. 6-10, they surpassed their previous record for “busiest week” for customer traffic. During that week the UARRC served 207 customers (including myself). Their previous record was 203 customers, set the first week back from their two-month 2020 COVID hiatus.

Personally, I am quite proud of the UARRC. I go up almost every Saturday morning with a carload of material. When I was talking with Jeff and Steve during my most recent visit, they said that folks come from far and wide — like as far away as near Eastport or Mount Desert Island — because the UARRC has so many categories of recyclable material. Not only is recycling good for the environment and business, but you can save yourself a decent chunk of change by recycling material and not wasting a garbage sticker or two every week.

The UARRC will have a booth at the Common Ground Fair, which runs Sept. 23-25, near the “Composting and Recycling Area.” Their typical operating hours are Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
