Boston Tea Party participant to be recognized

BELFAST — Wednesday, Oct. 5, 3:30 p.m.: A ceremony in Grove Cemetery will recognize John Cochran, a Belfast resident who participated in the famed Boston Tea Party. Local officials will place a commemorative plaque on Cochran’s gravestone as part of a movement sponsored by the Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum, a group dedicated to recognizing all members of the Dec. 16, 1773, protest event by the time of its 250th anniversary next year. Belfast Flying Shoes community, contra dances

BELFAST – Friday, Oct. 7, 6 p.m.: Belfast Flying Shoes presents a community dance and contra dance at the Waldo County YMCA Pavilion, 157 Lincolnville Ave. The evening kicks off with Chrissy Fowler calling a community dance to lively music by the All Comers Band, which welcomes musicians of all ages, instruments and skill levels. Warm up at 5:30 p.m. The 7 to 9 p.m. contra dance features Hannah Chamberlain calling and music by Willy Clemetson and Bennett Konesni. Suggested admission is $5 to $20.
