AUGUSTA — The Midcoast towns of Rockport and Islesboro are among the winners of Maine Municipal Association’s 2022 Annual Report Competition, MMA announced today.

Earlier this month, a three-member review panel selected a “supreme” (first place), superior (second place) and excellence (third place) report from five population categories.

Islesboro placed second (superior) in the 500 to 999 population category, while Rockport placed second in the 2,500 to 4,999 category.

“Finding creative ways to provide important financial information, statistics and a summary of municipal activities is evidence of our members commitment to transparent governance,” Catherine Conlow, MMA executive director, said in the Sept. 29 announcement.  “We greatly appreciate the steps municipal leaders take to keep the State’s residents, businesses owners and guests informed.”

The criteria used to judge the town and city reports focused on the attractiveness of the cover and layout, as well as reader appeal; the presentation of the materials, including financial statements, statistics, and trends; and the use of tables of contents, photos, and graphics to succinctly inform readers of the community’s achievements.

In order, the winners were:

Under 500 category: town of Cranberry Isles, Kingsbury Plantation and town of Dyer Brook.

500 to 999: towns of Carrabassett Valley, Islesboro and Starks.

1,000 to 2,499: towns of Mount Desert, Ogunquit and Rangeley.

2,500 to 4,999: towns of Mechanic Falls, Rockport and China.

5,000 and over: town of Freeport, city of Waterville and town of Lincoln.
