BELFAST — The Belfast Area High School football team, now into the second half of its regular-season schedule, continues to eye its first win of the campaign after the Lions hosted Nokomis of Newport on Friday night, Sept. 30.

The Warriors (3-2) got out to a hot start and never trailed on way to a 40-16 win over the Lions (0-5) at Dennis “Bear” Bryant Field.

Nokomis led 14-0, 20-8 and 40-16 at the quarter breaks.

Elias Higgins rushed for a touchdown and threw for another for the Lions, while Gabe Kelley rushed for 105 yards for the hosts. Kaden Bonin led the BAHS offense through the air with three catches for 43 yards and TD.

Grady Hartsgrove threw for four TDs for Nokomis — two to Aaron Mooers and one to Seth Bowden and Madden White — and also tossed a two-point conversion in the win for the visitors. Hartsgrove ended the day 13-of-20 for 286 yards.

Defensively, Tommy Littlefield had eight solo tackles and Bonin six for Belfast, while Oakley Landers (6 solos, 3 assisted tackles, quarterback sack) and Isaiah Morin (4 solos, 5 assists) keyed the Nokomis defense.
