Maine State Ferry Service has announced that the reduced fall schedule for the Margaret Chase Smith Ferry between Islesboro and Lincolnville will begin Sunday, Oct. 23.

With the new schedule, the ferry will leave Islesboro daily at 7:30, 8:30 and 9:30 a.m., and 12:30, 1:30, 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. The ferry will depart Lincolnville daily at 8, 9 and 10 a.m. and 1, 2, 4 and 5 p.m. The new schedule eliminates one round-trip in the morning and a second round-trip in the afternoon.

On Sundays there will be no 7:30 or 8 a.m. trips, and the 10 a.m. trip from Lincolnville on Wednesdays will depart at 10:30 a.m. to allow for refueling.

The fall schedule runs through Dec. 31.

Under the current schedule, which concludes with the 5 p.m. ferry leaving Lincolnville on Sunday, Oct. 16, the ferry leaves Islesboro daily at 7:30, 8:30, 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. and 12:30, 1:30, 2:30, 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. It departs Lincolnville daily at 8, 9, 10 and 11 a.m. and 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 p.m.

On Sundays there is no 7:30 or 8 a.m. ferry, and no 2 or 2:30 p.m. trip on Wednesdays to allow for refueling.

Maine Ferry Service originally planned the switch to the fall schedule for Oct. 17. At the request of the Islesboro Select Board, the start was changed to Oct. 23.
