SEARSPORT — As a part of Searsport’s Fling into Fall Celebration, Town Historian Charlene Knox Farris will lead a free Historical Walking Tour of Searsport on Saturday, Oct. 8.  The walk begins at 1 p.m. in front of the Searsport First Congregational Church on Church Street.

Farris’s one-hour tour is a mile of easy walking that winds from the church to Searsport’s historical Union Hall, to Main Street, down to Mosman Park and ends at the Civil War Monument on Main Street.

“People who walk with me on this historical tour commonly say, ‘Gosh! I didn’t know that, and I’ve lived here all of my life!’  For instance, unlike so many Maine communities, why did the town of Searsport never have a devastating fire?”
